Preposition: In, On, At


Definition :
A preposition is a word, which is used to indicate different relations, such as place, time, method, manner, reason and purpose, possession, direction and motion. It is placed before a noun or a pronoun. The most common examples of prepositions in grammar are in, on, at, etc. These words indicate location. Prepositions are often used to indicate location in the physical world. 





1. Prepositions of Place: at, in, on
In general, we use:
  • at for a POINT
  • in for an ENCLOSED SPACE
  • on for a SURFACE

Preposition In On At to Indicate Place
     
IN
In is use to showing something for enclosed space around us. Besides In use for geographies area such as : country, city, province, district and other.

Example  :
- In (enclosed space)
  In the Bicycle : Julian ate his Kebab Turkey in the Bicycle last night

- In (geographies area)
  In Banjarmasin : There is Batakan beach too in Banjarmasin


ON
On is use to showing something which there on a surface. Besides On use to show the name of a street.
         
Example :
- On (a surface)
  On the wall : There was a "no smoking" sign on the wall.

- On (name of street) 
  On Orchid Street : I live on orchid street bloc A number 27

 
AT
At is use to show something for a point, sometimes use as a part of line.

Example : He is at the bus stop.
Explanation :Bus stop in this sentence is a point which there on a line (street) which comprise another bus stop.

Besides At use to show address accurately.   
Example : I live at 22 Orchard Road, London, England.
           
Example :
 - At (for a point)
  At the corner : The statue in Erica’s house there is at the corner of her   
  house.


2. Prepositions of Time: at, in, on
We use:
  • at for a PRECISE TIME
  • in for MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS
  • on for DAYS and DATES
 
Preposition In On At to Indicate Time

IN
In is use for show such as showing months, showing years, showing centuries and showing long periods.

Example:
In (for month)
In December : In December all of Australia countries are not snowing.
In (for years)  
In 1996 : I was born in 1996
In (for centuries)
In 1900s : Titanic was a big exclusive ship in 1900s

ON
On is use for show such as showing dates and showing days.

Example
- On (for dates)
  On 1 Syawal : Idul Fitri always celebrate on 1 Syawal every years.

- On (for days)
  On Sunday :  Lily will hold the wedding on Sunday

AT
At is use for show precise time.

Example :
At
At lunchtime : We are go to our favorite restaurant  at lunchtime
